A 3-day course for professional investors

At the end of March 2012 Maastricht University and Duisenberg School of Finance organised the first Impact Investing Course for professional investors. ECCE’s Prof. Dr. Harry Hummels and and DSF Programme Director Bernd Jan Sikken were responsible for the organisation of the course.

The 3-day course highlighted different topics like ‘What is impact investing?’, ‘Does impact investing lead to market rate returns?’, ‘How do you measure the impact of impact investing?’, and ‘Are there any good examples of impact investing for institutional investors?’. Among the distinguished guest speakers were DWM-partner Peter Johnson, Global Impact Investing Network CEO Luther Ragin, PFZW director Peter Borgdorff, FMO CEO Nanno Kleiterp and Social Finance Director Martin Rich.

As the feedback from the participants shows the contributions of this wide variety of speakers was highly appreciated, as was the quality of their presentations. The course was graded 4.4 on a scale from 0 to 5.

Quotes

"An excellent opportunity to meet with a group of enthusiastic professionals and share ideas about the latest developments in the area of impact investing.” Wouter Koelewijn (Innovations Manager, PGGM)

“A few days of getting a deepening insight in this rather new segment of the market was an 'eyeopener' to me. Social impact really matters. I have learned a lot in a few days, met with enthusiastic colleagues and with experienced international speakers. Hijn Bondrager (Manager Investments, Pension Fund for Ministers in the Protestant Church)

“The program was well balanced. In a relatively short period of time it provides a good overview of the state of art of impact investing. The course consisted of a solid mix of academic insights and practical cases.” Harald Walkate (Senior VP, Aegon Asset Management)

Also the speakers were very content with the program, the audience and the interaction. As Peter Johnson remarked: “This was a great Maastricht/DSF seminar on impact investing! I really enjoyed taking part in it and having a chance to share perspectives on this field with a good audience.”
