Many investors publicly state that ESG information helps them make better investment decisions in their pursuit of generating “alpha”. Especially popular is the idea that ESG factors affect firms’ intangible value in a manner that is not fully understood by the financial market. But conventional economic logic teaches us that heightened attention among investors for ESG factors will eventually eliminate this mispricing. In this webinar, we ask whether ESG factors can produce alpha in the long run, and whether there is evidence that the alpha potential of ESG-based investment has decreased ever since attention for such factors among investors has increased substantially.
