Symposium on Corporate Governance at Maastricht University

On March 15, the European Centre for Corporate Engagement (ECCE) from Maastricht University will host a symposium on Corporate Governance. The speakers are Henri Servaes(London Business School, Finance), Abe de Jong(Erasmus University Rotterdam, Finance), Rogier Deumes(Maastricht University, Accounting)and Lei Chen(London School of Economics, Accounting). As an associate editor of the Journal of Finance, Henri Servaes will also talk about conducting high quality research and publishing in top journals in general. The symposium is interesting for anyone working in the fields of finance and accounting and for those who are interested in corporate governance. The symposium is free of charge.

The symposium is open to participants and we kindly invite you to register to e.vanaernsbergen@maastrichtuniversity.nl by March 8, 2013.

The symposium will take place on the premises of the School of Business and Economics of the Maastricht University, Tongersestraat 53, Maastricht, room H0.06.

10:40 – 11:20 Presentation 2 –“Isn’t the emperor wearing anything at all? An investigation into the cries of short sellers” (Lei Chen, LSE-Accounting)

11:20 – 11:40 Coffee break

11:40 – 12:20 Presentation 3 – “How Do Industry Peers Respond to Control Threats” (Henri Servaes, LBS-Finance)

12:20 – 13:30 Lunch at Ad Fundum

13:30 – 14:10 Presentation 4 –“The Formative Years of the Modern Corporation: The Dutch East India Company Voc, 1602-1623" (Abe de Jong, Erasmus University- Finance)

14:10 – 14:30 A general speech by Henri Servaes
